Although the saw is quite heavy, it is still portable enough to be loaded in the back of a truck for transport to a job site. The saw's longer rails allow cutting 50 inches to the right and 12 inches to the left of the saw blade when used with the optional table and leg set. With well-thought-out features and rugged construction, this model is a solid choice for those needing a contractor-grade saw and a premium choice for the craftsperson or home hobbyist looking for durability and professional features. --Tim Block

The first was a cheap contractors saw with cast-iron webbed extensions that wobbled and had more run-out than a 58 Chevy with bad bearings. I looked very seriously at JET and DELTA cabinet type saws, but found this Powermatic 64A. The facts: 1. It has solid cast iron extensions that add significantly to the saw's stability. 2. The blade and arbor tilt to the left which is a great safety feature and reduces kick-back potential on chamfer cuts. You won't find this on any saw near this price. The lack of a left-tilting arbor kept me away from Grizzly, although I am sure their saws are okay. 3. The fence alone is worth buying the saw. While maybe not as substantial as the ones of Powermatic's Model 66's, the 64A's fence is every bit the equal to the Biesemeyer, Unifence, or Jetlock. It is accurate, reasonably easy to set up and is solid. 4. The dust collection sucks (no pun intended). I fixed this by enclosing the base with MDF and putting a...Read more 36 of 36 people found the following review helpful: By Gregory Narozniak (Hillsborough, New Jersey United States) - See all my reviews This review is from: Powermatic 1791228 Model 64 Artisan 10-Inch Left Tilt 1-1/2 Horsepower Contractor Saw with 50-Inch Accu-Fence, 2 Cast Iron Extension Wings, Table Board, and Legs, 115/230-Volt 1 Phase (Tools & Home Improvement) I received my saw and the boxes were in great shape, No Damage. Table is nice and flat with extensions bolted up and very Sturdy. Set-up was nearly completed in under 2 hours with the exception of the Pin that the motor tilts on was not in the box. After tearing apart my garage and the boxes for another hour, it was not to be found. The Belt was also twisted to the point it was vibrating very badly ( I used a Prybar in place of the Pin. Had to see it run!!) I called Toolcrib on monday and pin and new belt arrived wednesday. The Saw runs GREAT. Passes nickel test and fence is OUTSTANDING. Little adjusting to get parrell but no big deal. Left tilt is very nice, but keep in mind that if a dado is used your measurement on the fence rail will be off because the dado stacks toward the fence changing the measurement. This is offest by the saftey of being able to bevel rip wide pieces safley. Table inserts need replacing (Not very good quality) and the blade is good for rough cutting only. I'm pleased to say that the saw performs as I would expect from powermatic... great! The only problem I found was that I had to readjust the trunnion alignment a little, but I've had to do this on other saws also to get them just right so it was no big deal. The saw went together easily and is stable for a contractor saw but I still added additional bolts to the fence for rigidity. I upgraded to a zero clearance plate and a link belt to reduce vibration (which wasn't bad anyway). It's a good tool for the money and I'd buy it again. |
