If you have any intention of moving your DW 746 table saw (which weighs approximately 200 pounds and needs two people to move it, particularly when the fence and support tables are attached) around your work area, then this mobile base verges on mandatory. With it, I can move the table saw around using only one foot. The mobile base is a hefty 29 pounds and is solidly milled and put together. Assembly takes no more than a leisurely 20 minutes, which is aided by DeWalt's explicitly detailed instructions. Tall sides on the mobile base frame as well as pre-drilled holes to attach the saw to the frame ensure the stability of the saw when moving it or when in use. Large wheels provide further ease of mobility. A key feature of this base is the lever at the front which permits raising of the saw thereby facilitating moving it around your work area. When you use the foot lever to lower the saw, it sets the saw down flat on all four sides. In addition, DeWalt provides...Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Dewalts on a Roll, July 9, 2001

The Dewalt DW746 table saw is definitely a heavy beast. The mass of its internal components is one of the reasons why this is the finest saw in its class. It's also the reason why, if you have limited space in your shop, you will need an easy way to maneuver this saw around. You could go with an HTC base (like I did for my Jet 6" jointer), but the HTC base will not give you the performance you would want for something as heavy as this saw. The Dewalt mobile base is very sturdy and smooth. Although it has a wide stance, the three-wheel design allows for extreme maneuverability in tight spaces while remaining stable at all times. Instructions were clear, assembly is a snap and the kit has everything you need to be up and rolling (no user-supplied wooden rails like the Delta base). The lift pedal is well designed, but it does tend to drop the saw with a jolt if you are not careful. If you guide the pedal down gradually with your foot as the saw is lowered, you will have no problem. I...Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Safer, more convenient operation., October 26, 2000

If you are working in your garage get the mobile base. I got one, and it is awesome. It really helps having the saw be a bit lighter than the cabinet saws, but the base makes it that much more versatile. If you are cutting something large you can push it into the middle of the garage for much safer operation. I wouldn't do without it, and it makes me want more for all my other machines.Assembly was very easy, but you might want someone there to help you put the saw on the base. It would be very difficult to do it alone. I had my brother help. The operation is quite simple as well. My only complaint about it is that you have to be careful when you lower the saw. It can slam down on the floor if you don't take care to lower it slowly.
