The DELTA 36-982 10-inch Left Tilt 1-1/2 Horsepower Contractor Saw with 30-inch Biesemeyer Fence, Table Board, and Legs, 115/230-Volt 1 Phase features a powerful 1-1/2 HP induction motor that makes quick work of your toughest cutting operations. It has a precision-milled arbor face flange, a durable work surface made of cast iron, and has independent height and bevel controls so you can adjust the blade precisely. Thanks to its convenient mobile base, you can easily move it around your work area, and there is a 4-inch dust port that will fit most common vacuums. A T-slot miter gauge is also included with positive stops at 45 and 90 degrees. Both the blade carriage and the trunnion are also made of cast iron, so vibration is minimized. This set includes a 30-inch Biesemeyer Fence that adds accuracy. In addition to the saw and fence, also included are two cast iron wings, side table and leg supports, a woodworking blade, see-through blade guard, anti-kickback splitter, blade wrench, and instruction manual.

I'm convinced I've made the right decision. The higher price with the Biesemeyer fence is a hard pill to swallow, but definitely worth it. The fence is ROCK SOLID. I'm extremely impressed with the overall quality of this machine -- very stable, very smooth, almost no vibration -- near cabinet saw stability. Mobile base has already come in handy in my smaller shop, and the mobility features DO NOT effect the stability of this saw.
Even if your considering a cabinet saw, you may want to take a closer look at this contractor. I will take a dial indicator, precision straight edge, and other tools with me next time I go shopping for a TS.
A contractor's saw can be aligned in many ways by its owner, but one type of adjustment isn't possible, and a saw is useless to me if it isn't built correctly to begin with here. The axis of the pivot that raises and lowers the blade needs to be perfectly parallel to the axis of blade rotation. If it isn't, the blade will not stay in the same plane when the blade is raised and lowered. This has nothing to do with aligning the blade to the miter slot at 90 degrees and then discovering that it goes out when tilted to 45 degrees. That can be fixed. This is aligning the blade to the miter slot with it raised to 3" and then discovering that it is no longer aligned when lowered to, say, 1". This is caused by warped cast iron or holes bored out of parallel, and it can't be adjusted for by messing with...Read more |
